One of the classic detective movies. Bogart plays Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe. The plot involves blackmail and murder in the Sternwood house. Lauren Bacall plays Vivian Sternwood. This was the second matching of Bogart, Bacall, and the director Howard Hawks. The first was the flat "To Have and Have Not" which seemed satisfied with being a star vehicle and never really try to sell you on the characters or story.
