The "Glass Key" was written by Dashiell Hammet who also wrote "The Maltese Falcon". However the story is more film Noir than detective. The main character is not tough emotionless. He is a "fixer" for the head boss that runs the corrupt town. Like other noirs, the main character tries to stay true to his code in a corrupt world. Looking at the movie now, there seemed to be only two interesting points about it. The first is that it is a good showcase for Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake. The other is that it is the story that inspired the Coen Brothers to make their best Movie:"Millers Crossing"(coming soon)
