"Run Lola Run" is a 1998 Germany thriller movie. It was first foreign contemporary movie that I felt could standard along side American movies.
In 1988,the American distributor MiraMax Release the Italian "Cinema Paradiso". They did a big advertising campaign and it won awards. Looking at the movie, it plays like a minor sentimental Felini Movie.
After the success of this movie, very similar movies appeared in the main stream theaters. In the art house theaters, there were films that had the same stories as American and classic films. You could not escape the coming of age story from film makers in every country of the world. You could only appreciate them if you were surprised those film makes knew one end of the camera from the other.
"Run Lola Run" has a unique narrative where the viewer sees the consequences of her actions. The themes involve free-will vs determinism. Is our fate written or can you change it. I will say no more to spoil the movie
