This movie is a remake of Hitchcock's 1934 version. In fifty-three movies, this was the only time he did this. In the famous conversations Hitchcock had with film maker Truffaut, he describes the two movies as the following: "Let's say that the first version was the work of a talented amateur and the second was made by a professional."
I find this movie only interesting as a comparison with the early version. The first movie lacked suspense in the final concert because only the bad guy knew the piece of music and only he knew the moment of the cymbals. The second movie takes great pains to make sure the audience know when the cymbals are going to strike. Again, it seems that Dorris Day sings the main Song "Que Sera Sera" a lot so the audience knows her character is associated with the song because it is needed as a plot point. This "over explanation" really slows down the movie and makes it less enjoyable.
I also find the comparison of the wife's characters interesting. The second movie shows a weaker female character.
