"Kiss Me Deadly" is famous for being the best detective film noir. Most detective films are set in a world of order where the detective tries to uncover the disorder. contrarily, Film noirs are set in world of disorder where the only thing ordered in the characters's destruction. A good example of a detective film noir is the "the Big Heat". When there was a murder the cops know immediately who was responsible but they cannot touch him. "Kiss me Deadly" has a extra sense of fatalism. The "hero" is a detective who spends his days setting up married couples to force divorces. He is a cold unlikable cynic who only cares about himself and his car. Forced to stop for an abandoned woman on the road pulls him into a dangerous game of world destruction. He only cares that he might be able to get some money from it. Interestingly, the McGuffin is never explained though it seems to have some sort of nuclear ability. The device has been referenced in other movies like Pulp Fiction and Repo Man.
