I first saw "Se7en" as a theatrical preview and didn't like it at all for several reasons.
I found the movie unnecessarily dark and rainy just like almost all X-files episodes.
There was an excessive amount of gore, like most x-file monster of the week episodes.
Two of the main actors, Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow, seemed very annoying.
The opening credits seemed very busy and didn't really fit in to the rest of the movie. I recall a Saul Bass opening credit like "North by Northwest" which was flashy but fit with the movie.
Years after I saw it, people were still talking about the movie and it director. I decided to give it a second look. On a second viewing, the movie seemed to be more coherent and was consistent on it theme of social decay. The two main actors were annoying because their characters called for it. In the end, the movie is not one of my favorites but it is still worth watching.
